History And Methods For Mixed Media Artists
Mixed Media Artists work with images, forms, material, papers, plastic, three-dimensional forms, dry media just like the above mentioned drawing resources, and wet media, such as watercolor or ink. Mixed media painters may also use almost everything to make a work of art. These painters will put materials to boards, canvas stretched over a board, or almost any flat or curved surface to create a work of art. Mixed media artists draw from personal experience and other artists to formulate a concept for a work of art. They decide on objects that relate with the idea that they wish to express. From time to time a lot of these artists can also apply relatively unrelated items and let the viewer make connections with the objects. Sometimes materials are put together merely for visual look at the same time.
Even though they were not referred to as mixed media artists, painters of the Byzantine Empire, 330 to 1453 A.D., often used gilded gold leaf on their paintings, mosaics, frescoes as well as manuscripts. The arts stagnated throughout the Dark Ages, but prospered along with the coming of the Renaissance. In addition to working with tempera, a paint medium that dates to ancient Egypt, oil artwork became popular. Many painters used gold leaf to painted wooden panels in order to get vivid skies or shining halos on religious panels.
Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque are considered the fathers of Cubism. Working independently with no communication between them, both of them made works which were similar. By digesting fine art to dimensional points of research, they worked with form and space instead of realistic images. In 1912 Picasso created his first true mixed media piece, “Still Life with Chair Caning.” He pasted papers and oilcloth to canvas and combined them with painted sections.
Mixed media is a blanket term for every artistic endeavor which uses a couple of objects that might not ordinarily or traditionally be applied collectively in one piece. More particularly, a mixed media painting is one that intensely makes use of drawing materials on a drawing surface area of some kind, yet which also includes other materials which have been assembled into the painting. A thoughtful artist is going to choose materials that relate to one another as well as to the topic or idea of the drawing. As an example, a mixed pen and charcoal drawing on ordinary velum, showcasing a little boy carrying a stuffed ducky and a blanket, is fixed onto a canvas. The border of the drawing is then painted with baby-blue acrylic paint and little yellow-colored ducky buttons will be stitched in a random distribution around the edges.
Drawing from the work of early painters, mixed media has become an accessible art form for both skilled and novice painters. Assemblage and collage are found blended with acrylic and watercolor painting, rubber-stamped artwork, sculpture and altered books. Fibers, torn papers, inks, glitters and beads are finding their way into works of fine art and commercial items such as cards as well as quilts. The future of Mixed Media Artwork, it seems, is limited only by the imagination of painters and regardless of what they are able to get hold of.
