Early Italian Renaissance Art History
Robert campin was from…?
hey doing an art history assignment. All I need to know (since 2 hours of searching led me no where) Robert campin I know was in tournai. but kind of like… the early Italian Renaissance being a certain period for artists in italy. what was that for tournai in between 14-1500? Any help would be VERY much appreciated.
Not sure what your question is. Robert Campin may have been from Vincennes, where he had relatives. He bought Tournai citizenship, so we can assume he wasn’t originally from there.

The art of painting flourished too: “Jacques Daret (1404-1470), Robert Campin (c. 1375-1444) and Rogier van der Weyden (1400-1464) all came from Tournai.” Their painting combined Late Gothic and Early Renaissance motifs: realistic illusionism (the viewer feels like he is part of the painting) and complex iconography (symbolism). Subjects are mostly religious or small portraits, unlike the Italian narrative or mythological subjects.
