renaissance wanted to paint what they saw to the best of their ability. painting was like photography for them. renaissance artists were accepted widely throughout europe.

impressionism was less about what you could see and more about the emotion of painting. photography had been invented so they no longer needed to paint in a realistic vein. impressionists were not accepted at that time. impressionism was the rejection of fundamental ideals in art and the avant-garde (which impressionism eventually became the avant-garde).
